Some churches ask you to sign a commitment stating your income and pledging to give a certain amount to the church, often 10%. While this practice of tithing has roots in the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament), the New Testament church doesn’t say much about tithing. Instead, we find examples of people who gave far more than a set minimum. Some sold properties or gave all they had. Others took in strangers or made sure to care for the hurting and poor. We find examples of this kind of generosity all throughout the New Testament and into the life of the early church. Just a simple online search can unearth scores of compelling examples.
Whether you are a regular part of the College Church or simply someone who wishes to support what we do, we encourage you to give generously as the Lord leads you. Our financial giving is not obedience to a legalistic command but rather a voluntary act of grace, love and worship.
