Mexico Mission Team 2012
During the first week in April (Spring Break), 17 people travelled for 12 hours down to Chapultepec, Mexico, a small town about 5 miles south of Ensenada. We were going there to be God’s hands and feet to a family living there in a plastic tarp covered, plywood walled shack with a dirt floor. We were going there to build the Lopez Martinez family a new home, with a real roof, walls with sheetrock, a concrete floor, glass windows to see the world around them and a front door with a deadbolt lock to protect them. At least that’s what we thought we were doing. God had bigger plans for us than just the blueprints we were building from.
The “Campo Amor” church which roughly translates into Fields of Love, has been an integral part of our mission trips to Mexico over the last 3 years. They have loved on us and been God’s hands to your mission teams just as much as we have to them. They have fed us (physically and spiritually), learned songs in English so that we could worship alongside them, and in past yeears, asked members of our teams to lead worship during their services. This year, Marcos Miranda shared his testimony with the Campo Amor church of how he has come to truly understand God’s love for him.
When we first met Albino and his Nieves Martinez on Sunday afternoon, Albino shared that as a farm worker, he thought that he would never be able to provide a home for his family. After working alongside Albino, he can truly say that he has provided a safe place for his children to play and dry beds to sleep in, knowing that their earthly father and, more importantly, their heavenly father loves them.
So you see, we didn’t just go to Mexico to build a home for a family who needed one. We were actually the ones that were served by a family who literally have nothing and a church who loves them unconditionally. Albino and Nieves will forever be in our hearts and the College Church of Christ will forever be in theirs.
We are grateful that we were allowed to be ambassadors on behalf of the church. Please pray about becoming part of this experience in 2013!
