Living a Renewed Ethic
Greetings from Fresno!
I hope you’re making plans to join us for the 2013 RENEW Conference here in Fresno, February 8-10. The Holy Spirit calls us into the world to participate in God’s mission to renew relationships, neighborhoods, churches and the whole world. Come join Christians from Central California, the Bay Area, Southern California and beyond for a weekend of renewal in purpose, mind and spirit.
This year’s theme is “Living a Renewed Ethic.” We’ll be meditating on the Sermon on the Mount as we ponder renewal for our contexts. We have an outstanding lineup of presenters. Our keynote speakers are highly respected and renowned writers and speakers.
Lee Camp is Professor of Theology & Ethics at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, the host and creator of Tokens (TokensShow.com), and most recently the author of Who Is My Enemy?: Questions American Christians Must Face about Islam-and Themselves. Lee understands the unique possibilities and challenges faced by our churches, and he can point us back not just to the roots of our Restoration Movement but to our roots in the teachings of Jesus.
Doug Foster is Professor of Church History and Director of the Center for Restoration Studies at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. He is a co-editor and contributing writer for a new global history of the Stone-Campbell movement. Doug knows the story of Churches of Christ as well as anyone. He is helping churches and church leaders narrate not just our past but our future as well. He is a strong voice for unity among Christians.
Ben Ries preaches for the Federal Way Church of Christ in Seattle. Ben and his church are a living “experiment” in missional renewal. Ben is a great speaker who will bless us with deep reflection about the practical intersection of scripture and ministry.
Ashley Cleveland
Ashley Cleveland is a three-time Grammy and two-time Dove award winner. She has released 8 solo albums and contributed to over 300 other albums. She has appeared in concert all over the United States. Ashley’s married to Kenny Greenberg & has 3 kids. She’s a native Tennessean who resides in Nashville. Saturday Afternoon Workshops
The Saturday afternoon workshops will provide rich nourishment for church leaders and members. I’ll announce our popular track for church members in a future e-newsletter. Our church leadership track is now sponsored by Pepperdine University’s Office of Church Relations.
This year’s track will feature Jon Mullican from theHighland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas. As we think about renewal among our churches on the West Coast and beyond, we have to reflect on our capacity for renewal and growth. Can we dream about the future? Do we even have a shared future? Do Churches of Christ have a role to play in the days and years to come? Jon will lead us through an intense 4-hour session as we seek to discern God’s work and God’s call for our churches. I highlyrecommend that your church’s leadership team participate in this session. I’ll have more details to share about this in the coming weeks.
