Missions: Here and Worldwide

Mexico Mission Team 2009

The team is currently working hard ministering to families in Mexico. Here are updates on their work this week, in descending order:

Thursday, April 9

Hello Church,

Thursday's are always the hardest days of these trips. Emotions are running high with expectations of completing the homes. There always seems to be some tension between team members because of being tired. But the hardest part is saying "Goodbye for now" to the families that we have developed a relationship with this week.
Thursday's are also always the best day. The team finishes what they set out to do. Any disagreements between members are always worked out. And the very best part is always seeing the smiles and tears of joy as these families get to unlock the front door to their new home for the first time.

What a wonderful God we serve. Everybody was where He needed them to be this week.

As I write this we are sitting in world's busiest border crossing just a few feet from the US border. We did not see any signs of the violence that has been so widely reported. Thre spirit of fear did not keep these 2 families from receiving new homes or thr women and children os a local church from hearing about and experiencing the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Please continue your prayers for us during these couple of days of teavel. We have a number in our group who are not feeling well so please be especially mindful of them. We'll see you on Sunday to worship together as we remember the resurrection of Christ.

Thank you again so much for prayers.

Wednesday, April 8

Hello Church,

We just finished a wonderful lunch prepared for us by the Sarmenta family. Homemade tortillas, rice, beans and all the fixin's for tacos. Today we are finishing the roof and getting ready to start painting the inside of the house. The houses both have their windows in and are starting to rally look like a home. We received the gift baskets that will be given to the family and can't wait to see the joy on their faces when they receive them tomorrow afternoon. Tonight we will be worshipping with the church that the Women's Ministry is working with. That should be exciting for all of us. I will send one more message tomorrow night after we turn over the keys and dedicate the homes.

Until then, we continue to ask you for your prayers. See you soon.

Tuesday, April 6

It's Tuesday and everyone is still going strong. We are getting ready to start hanging sheetrock and putting on the roof shingles this afternoon (see photo below).

The women's Ministry had a great first day with more women and children than they had originally anticipated and they knew that more would be coming today. In fact, our entire group is looking forward to worshiping with this church on Wednesday night.
As for tonight we get a special treat. One of the local taco stands is going to be fixing dinner for the entire camp and staff totaling almost 250 people.

Until tomorrow . . .

Sunday, April 6

Hello Church,

We made it safe and sound to Chapultepec yesterday at 4:30. We were blessed to have wonderful weather all the way and the team participated in a few games along the way to get better acquainted with each other. Upon arrival at the camp we were able to share a meal with two families, the Sarmenta's and the Hernandez'. What a precious time that was. It's noon now on Monday and we have already stood all of the walls on both houses. By the end of the day we are hoping to have the roof framing done and some plywood down ready for shingles tomorrow afternoon.
We covet your prayers this week for stamina and an attitude of service.

Below are a couple of pictures of our progress so far.
We love you all

Safety Update:

In light of recent events that have taken place in Ensenada and the current fears of some of the team members, we are posting a letter from Scott Webster, Director at the Ensenada Outreach Center.

"I am convinced that God's will for us is to continue forward in this endeavor and that He will take care of the rest. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concern." Jon Frame
