January 3, 2008: Message from Martin
(Message dated 3/30/08)
Thank you for your many prayers and letters of encouragement during this difficult time for our family. In the past few months, God has been teaching us more about himself and the nature of his perfect love. Some of these lessons are difficult to understand and accept. Keep us (and especially Julia) in your prayers as we learn to deal with the recent and sudden loss of our father, Xiao Sha Ming.
Julia and her mom are in Jingzhou trying to plead with the Yangtze University
administration to compensate Julia's mom for the (more than) 20 years that
Julia's dad worked at the school. I could not go with them because I have
to go to class. We pray this process will not be very complicated, time-consuming
or discouraging. I will go to Jingzhou this weekend to be with Julia for
the Chinese grave-sweeping festival (April 4); Julia will come back to
Beijing the following week.
As far as our ministry goes, a lot of good things have happened in the
last few months. This has been a beautiful testimony of how God's grace
is sufficient and how His strength is great in our weakness (2 Corinthians
12:9). Here
